Week of February 13

We celebrated Valentine's Day this week. Our shape was HEART.

We read We Love You Hugless Douglas by David Melling

and Porcupine Valentine by Aaron Zenz.

One of our songs was 5 Little Hearts.

For our Art Center we made a turtle Valentine ornament for our Moms and Dads. Our little ones used foam stickers to make and decorate their turtle.

For a Fine Motor Center we used stickers to decorate our Valentine Bags.

For our Skill Center we did some color matching. We matched candy conversation hearts by color.

We had fun passing out our Valentine cards to friends.

Next week our shape is SQUARE.

Week of February 6

This week our shape was SQUARE.

One of our books was the Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

For our Art Center we did some stamping. We used liquid water colors and rubber stamps to make squares on our paper.

For a Skill Center we used markers. We filled in the dots to make a square. It was hard work to get the dots inside the circles. It was great hand control practice.

For another Skill Center we colored. We are decorating a shape book. We colored the circle and square pages this week. We are learning the correct way to hold a crayon.

For our Fine Motor Center we practiced stacking square blocks. We made our towers as tall as we could.

We also added faces to our painted circles from last week. We love the personality of all our monsters!

This week we had a special "In House" field trip. Miss Kay, of Kay's Studio of Dance, came to visit. She taught our little ones a dance to go with The Very Hungry Caterpillar book. We got to try out tap shoes and do a choo choo train dance. We did some stretching. We ended with a little hip hop dance. Everyone had a great time.

Next week our shape is HEART.

Week of January 30

Our shape this week was CIRCLE.

We read the book 10 Little Monsters.

For our Art Center we decorated circles to make monster faces. We took coffee filters and dripped liquid water color paint on them using a pipette. We used our fine motor skills to squeeze the pipette. We dripped yellow and pink paint to make fun designs. Next week when our paint is dry, we will add faces.

For our Fine Motor Center we put pipe cleaners through the holes of whiffle balls to make monster legs.

For a Skill Center we put google eye balls onto monster on play mats. Each monster has a number of eyes from 1-10. We also used pom poms to match the color spots on monster mats.

Our little ones had a great time at recess playing with some new giant Lego blocks. They made a bridge for trucks to drive under.

Our class will be celebrating Valentine's Day on February 13 & 14. If you would like to send Valentine cards, please fill in the FROM name and leave the TO name blank. Our little ones will pass our their Valentine's cards. There are 9 in our Monday/Wed class and 12 in the Tuesday/Thurs class.
