Week of August 28

This week we read The Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle. Our Little ones loved the story about how the little truck gets stuck in the mud and gets helped out by his friends.

At Circle Time our Star Student gets to lead the class in singing the ABC song.

For our Art Center we painted a muddy Little Blue Truck.

For our Sensory Center we played with brown beans. We used rakes and shovels to scoop and dig.

For our Fine Motor Center this week. We played with pipes and snapping cubes.

For our Skill Center this week we sorted farm animals by color.

We had a great week. All our little ones are settling in very well. They are learning our routine a little more each day.

Week of August 21

We had a fantastic first week of Jumpstart! Mrs. Alivia and I are so proud of all our little ones.

This week our focus was on making sure all our little ones were comfortable in our room. We kept our activities pretty casual so we could observe them and start to learn a little about their personalities.

We introduced Circle Time. In the morning after some Free Play, we meet at the rug by the window for Circle Time. We hold hands and sing a circle song to get started. We all sit on circle mats. Our eyes are looking at the teacher. Our ears are listening to the teacher. Our mouth is quiet, and our legs are criss cross applesauce. We didn't work too much on criss cross applesauce just yet. We will introduce that more in the coming days.

During Circle Time, we:

  • Sing the ABC song
  • Count to 10 together
  • Talk about what day it is & Sing a Days of the Week song
  • Name all our shapes and colors
  • Work on learning the Days of Creation
  • Sing Happy Birthday to celebrate with our friends
  • Sing some songs to get our wiggles out

For our Art Center we made a hand print picture. We painted their hands with finger paints and pressed them on paper. They loved how the paint brush tickled their hands.

Our Fine Motor Centers are fun, but there is a lot more going on then just play. They are strengthening their hand muscles and improving their coordination and dexterity. These things will helps them so much when they start writing.
For one Fine Motor Center we played with bristle blocks.

For another Fine Motor Center we played with plastic pegs and foam mats.

For another Fine Motor Center we played with chain links.

For a Play Center we played with cars. We drove our cars all over the road.

After we have snack, our little ones throw away their trash and put their cup in the sink. Once they finish their snack, they go to the reading corner and find a book. They look at books until everyone has finished their snack.

We were able to go out to the playground most of the week. This is the main reason some of them might have come home a little tired. They had so much fun trying out all the playground equipment. They are starting to learn to follow playground rules: No climbing on the fence, everyone is welcome in the playhouse, and we slide down the slide on our bottoms.

We are already seeing some sweet friendships start to develop with our little ones. We even had a boy/girl classroom kiss already :)
