Week of September 23

Our color this week was YELLOW.
Our science theme for September is BUGS.
Our bug for this week was BUTTERFLY.

For Circle Time we read the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

Our Star Student looks out the window during Circle Time to tell us what the weather is like for the day.

For our Art Center we made butterflies. We painted coffee filters with liquid water colors. We learned to use pipettes to squeeze the paint and drip it on our butterfly wings. We used a clothes pin for the body and added some antennae.

For our Skill Center we matched fruit by color. We used chunky tweezers to to pick up the fruits and place them in the right section of a pie by color.

For a Creation Center we played with loose parts. We used lots of assorted items to build and play. We let our creativity take control.

For our Fine Motor Center we played with magnets. We had a pipe cleaner :caterpillar in a container with a flower. We used a magnetic wand to move our caterpillar around inside.

For another Fine Motor Center we played with balancing blocks. We tried to stack all our fruit without letting it topple over. We also did some lacing with fruit and caterpillars.

Our Director, Miss Nicki, surprised the kids by coming to read a book. She read There's a Monster at the End of This Book. Our little ones loved every minute.

Week of September 16

Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!
Our color this week was YELLOW.
Our theme for the month of September is BUGS.
Our bug this week was the BEE.

At Circle Time we answered a Question of the Day. Do you like bananas?

For our Sensory Center we used out light table. We played with colored glass stones, flower templates, and glass bees.

For our Play Center we played bee keeper. We wore bee keeper hats to keep us safe. We planted flowers. We flew our bees around to visit the flowers and back to the hive. They carried their pom pom "pollen" and deposited it in the hive.

For our Art Center we made a bee hive painting. We used stamps made of bubble wrap to stamp patterns on our paper in yellow paint.

For our Fine Motor Center we played with pegs. We fit the pegs into holes in our base. we talked about the colors as we played. Some of our little ones got creative and stacked tall towers. We counted out pegs to see who could stack the most. Our record was 15 pegs tall before falling.

For our Outdoor Learning Centers we played with water and in the sandbox. We explored sunflower seeds, our watermelon, and the bugs that were eating it. We also learned to jump on the hopscotch.

We are looking forward to doing even more outdoor exploring as the season changes!
