Week of September 9

This week was a Big One at Home for Your Heat School! We had our Fall Family Picnic, Quarter Wars, Book Fair, and theme days. The school raised enough quarters to feed 16 children for an entire year!

Crazy Hat Day was a favorite for our class!

Our color this week was RED. Our theme was Watermelon, and our Science theme is Bugs. We learned about Ants this week.

For Circle Time our Star Student gets to sit in a special rocking chair. They help the teachers lead the ABC song. They look out the window to tell us about the weather. They also get to pick what items we will count for the day. They also share a snack with the class. This week at Circle Time we talked about watermelon. It is Green on the outside and Red on the inside.

For our Outdoor Learning Centers this week we took our watermelon outside. We played with it touching and squeezing it. We found seeds inside. We left it outside so we could see how the ants and other bugs found it. We will keep watching it to see what else happens. Our little ones were fascinated watching ants eat the fruit.

We continued exploring sunflowers this week. As they dry out, we are removing the seeds. It's a great fine motor activity. Some of the seeds are easy. Some are much harder to get out. We talked about the science of how flowers make seeds so that more flowers can grow.

We also played in the sandbox. We put plastic ants in the sand and let the kids find them. They had fun sifting the sand while searching for ants.

For our Art Center we made watermelon slices. We painted the edge of a paper plate piece. We used green paint. Then, we glued on a red triangle. We used out pincher grasp to place foam "seeds" on the glue. We tried to get 6 on each slice.

For a Skill Center we colored pictures of an ant.

We still managed to squeeze in some playground time and a bubble party!

REMINDER: School pictures are coming up soon! Order envelopes are going home the week of Sept 16.
